I am committed to making my website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. My goal is to provide a positive experience for all users by designing and developing my site with accessibility and usability in mind. I continuously strive to enhance the accessibility features and aim to meet or exceed the standards set by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2.
Efforts to Support Accessibility
With the help of the Malaya Team from Web Accessibility Philippines, we have implemented the following:
- Readable Font: We use a clear and readable font, Hepta Slab, to improve legibility for all visitors.
- Visual Contrast: We use high contrast between text, graphics and backgrounds to improve readability for people with low vision.
- Text Alternatives: We provide text alternatives for non-text content, ensuring that images, videos, and audio content are accessible to all users.
- Consistent Navigation: We maintain a consistent navigation layout to ensure that all users can intuitively find what they’re looking for.
- Additional Navigation: We provide breadcrumbs and back-to-previous-page navigations as well as a global search form for alternative ways for users to navigate and find information on the site.
- Keyboard Navigation: My site is designed to be navigable using a keyboard, allowing visitors who rely on keyboard controls and similar assistive technologies to easily access all areas of the site.
- Accessible Video: We offer closed captions, speaker identification, and synchronized audio description for videos where possible to make my media content accessible to people with hearing and/or visual disabilities. We use Youtube video player which has good accessibility.
- Accessible Audio: We offer lyrics and text description for audio tracks as necessary to make my music materials accessible to people with hearing disabilities. We use Soundcloud audio player which has good accessibility.
- Feedback from People with Disabilities: We sought feedback from people with disabilities, particularly those who are blind, low vision, deaf and hard of hearing, to learn how I can make my website more accessible to them.
- Labeled Links and Buttons: All interactive elements on the site have proper labels associated whether they are texts, images, or icons.
- Professional Recommendations: We consulted with other accessibility professionals on how to achieve best accessibility in some areas where we needed more clarity.
- Website Testing: We have tested the site across different operating systems (Windows, Mac OS, iOS, and Android) and different browsers (Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Arc, Opera and Edge). We also tested with different screen readers like NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver and Talkback.
- Development Best Practices: We have implemented not just the guideline recommendations but also the best practices to achieve accessibility and excellent user experience on the site.
